Founded in 2010 by Joseph Kowalczyk and previous members of the Firehouse Collective in Berkeley, FM featured a front gallery and 10 artist spaces. In 2015 the gallery was closed, and FM became primarily a private studio. Later in 2019 Joseph Kowalczyk, with his wife Emily Tian, took full management, regrouped the FM studio lineup, brought back the front gallery, and restored the standard of creative professionalism which the studio was intended to be.
We welcome you to the new FM, which fosters the creativity and professionalism of artists who take their practice seriously as they actively seek to expand their aesthetic vocabulary, develop their body of work, and inspire the community around them. Come visit us the First Friday of every month during the Oakland Art Murmur.
