Founded in 2010 by Joseph Kowalczyk, and previous members of the Firehouse Collective in Berkeley, FM Oakland features a front gallery and ten artist studio spaces. After four years of showing local talent, the gallery was closed in 2015, and FM became primarily a private studio. Later in 2018 Joseph Kowalczyk, along with his wife Emily Tian, took full management of the space, regrouped the FM studio lineup, reopened the front gallery, and restored the standard of creative professionalism which the studio was intended to be.
Welcome to the new FM Oakland! We foster the diversity and creativity of Bay Area artists who take their practice seriously as they actively seek to expand their aesthetic vocabulary, develop their body of work, and inspire the community around them. Come visit us the First Friday of every month during the Oakland Art Murmur or every Saturday from 1-5pm during the weekly Saturday Stroll! We are also open by appointment. Come say hello!
