Current Exhibition
For September of 2025, FM Oakland is featuring the work of one of our studio members Karen Lopez in her latest show "The Door of Letting Go." Karen is a Mexican artist based in the Bay Area whose practice is rooted in copper and wood. For the past five years, she has explored copper through engraving, and patina, watching it shift from raw metal into turquoise and green surfaces. These transformations have taught her that copper is never static it holds memory, change, and energy all at once.
Her work has grown from small studies pieces into larger sculptural pieces. She is drawn to creating works that radiate the aura of copper, allowing viewers to step closer, slow down, and feel its living surface. Each piece becomes both object and atmosphere, carrying a sense of history while reflecting the beauty of transformation.
Through these works, Karen seek to offer spaces for reflection and connection where material, memory, and emotion meet, and where copper’s timeless pieces can continue to resonate in new forms.
